There are so many little things that you can do to ensure your trip to Disney World is as magical as can be. From choosing your travel dates wisely to avoiding the park bottlenecks, read my 7 tips below to ensure you have the best time ever on your vacation.

Book your vacation for January or September.

Not only are these considered value months at Walt Disney World, the crowds at this time of year are nothing compared to Summer and the weeks around Holidays. Plus the weather is tolerable in January and September — not too hot and rainy days are at a minimum.

Stay on property at a Disney Resort.

Disney resorts are pricier than neighboring hotels off property but they are worth the extra money. By staying on property, you can take advantage of Extra Magic Hours (more time in the parks with less people) and free transportation to and from the parks (saving you $20 a day on parking). You also can take advantage of early Fastpass+ booking (60 days prior to your trip as compared to only 30 days prior if you’re staying off property!).

Book your Fastpass+ reservations as soon as possible.

Like mentioned above, if you’re staying onsite, mark your calendar for 60 days prior and book that morning. Have a game plan and know which attractions you don’t want to miss. If you’re not staying onsite, book at the 30 day mark but know that you may not get everything you want. If that’s the case, keep checking the app periodically prior to your trip to see if you can snag a reservation someone else has dropped. I’ve had a lot of success with this the morning of as sometimes people change their plans last minute.

Have somewhere you absolutely want to eat? *Ahem* Be Our Guest; Book your dining reservations in advance.

You can book your dining reservations 180 days in advance of your stay, and believe me when I say that Cinderella’s Royal Table is being booked 180 days out. Be Our Guest is extremely popular as well (and truly an all around amazing experience), and books quickly. There will always be same day reservations available SOMEWHERE on property, but if you’d like to dine at somewhere specific, book it early.

Arrive at the parks at opening.

Yep, I’m telling you to set an alarm on your vacation. The crowds at “rope drop” are nothing when you compare them to midday. Arrive early, enjoy the morning, grab some lunch, and head back to your resort for kiddo naps and swims at the pool while everyone else is sweating and waiting in long lines. Bonus points if you book a dining reservation at the park prior to opening.

Take the Resort Monorail to the Polynesian Village to watch the Magic Kingdom fireworks.

Imagine everyone standing in one area watching the fireworks and then ushering out of the park to the monorails or busses at the same time. It is madness. Don’t be like these people. Instead, hop on the resort monorail prior to the firework show and enjoy the fireworks from the beach of the Polynesian Village.

Hoping to trade pins at the parks? Buy a Disney Trading Pin lot on Amazon or eBay.

Disney pin trading is extremely popular and fun for kids (of all ages!), but the pins can very quickly add up. Prepare for this before your trip and buy a lot of pins online. Once they arrive, dig thru and decide which you’d like to keep for your collection and which you’d like to trade! You can buy a lanyard to pin them on and wear in the parks!
